Chemistry of Cross-Linked Polythylene(XLPE),
Natural Polythylene (PE) is a compound of Carbon and Hydrogen with
linear molecular structure and its principal drawback is that it is
thermally unstable at temperatures above 1100c thus limiting its
applicability for electrical power cables like HT power cables and LT
power cables. To overcome this limitation, the polyethylene is
cross-linked by a method called the Catenary Continuous Vulcanisation
(CCV) process. This process improves the properties of the cables and
makes it suitable for power transmission. Uniflex has the latest CCV line with triple tandem extruder, micro-processor controlled DC drives, synchronised on-line dia-eccentricity measurement and controls, and a state-of-the-art technology which has been imported from Royle Systems, USA.
